Looking for Pie and Coffee!

After the auction, not only did we stop for pie and coffee but made several stops in the area to check out the status of the cherries.

The trees are "loaded" with cherries - some ripe and later varieties still very green.  Because of the huge amount of rain the cherries are at risk for splitting, although the damage does not appear to be significant at this point.  

We decided not to "U-Pick" even if fresh cherries off the branch are the ultimate....yum!

We found our way to Davison's in Vernon.   And what a welcome they offer!

In fact this is not only a market stand but the site has a market, sweet shop, bakery, gift shop, antiques on display.....

...and a restaurant with indoor / outdoor seating.  There is also a large play area for kids.

The orchards are surrounding this family run business.

The second place that we stopped is the Log Barn, also in Vernon.

The first thing that you notice in approaching this market is the "Goat Walk".  The entrance is an overhead goat pen and the goats most certainly were enjoying their audience.

Antiques and gardens surrounded the buildings....

And the inside of the building was just as interesting.   This business was a demonstration of "Mennonite foods" including an incredible bakery, home made jams and jellies etc and farmer sausage. A fellow entertained on the keyboard.

Yes, we bought a pie.   And it was FANTASTIC!

Who knew that "Mennonite Inc." was a pie company?

We also purchased fresh cherries - yum!

...so that we can bake our own pies!  What a lot of work to buy the cherries, bring them home, wash and pit them and then bake.... only to be devoured almost immediately.

Definitely "fresh is best"!
